16 Oct Bringing London Rum Week to Cornwall with The Brig
It’s London Rum Week this week, which builds up to RumFest on the weekend of October 20th and 21st. But, why should London have the monopoly on rum fun? Cornwall has been well represented in the rum festivities this year, with Rathlee Distilling Co being shortlisted for UK Craft Rum of the Year 2018 in the 6th Golden Rum Barrel Awards and Dinner, and our friends at The Brig Bars being nominated for Rum List of the Year in Imbibe’s Drink List of the Year Awards.
The Brig Falmouth was opened by founders Andy and Ash, a married couple with a passion rum just like us, back in early 2015, and they opened their second bar in Truro this May. Both bars carry around 100 different rums and have extensive cocktail menus – whether you’re simply partial to the occasional cocktail or a fully paid-up rum head, they are without question bars that you need to visit.
To celebrate our twin nominations and recognition, the team at The Brig Truro have come up with a brand new Rathlee Rum cocktail named “Lost With The Earl” in homage to our home town of Lostwithiel, and they’re are offering it as a special this week. As an even greater incentive to head straight to The Brig, any customers who show them a special social media post (check our Facebook or Instagram!) getting theirs at the discounted price of just £5.
Lost With The Earl
35ml Rathlee Rum
15ml Triple Sec
20ml Fresh lime juice
10ml Earl Grey syrup (a 1:1 simple sugar syrup infused with Earl Grey tea)
5ml Gomme (sugar syrup)
Combine all ingredients in a Boston glass, top with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass. Take a strip of orange peel and squeeze it over the glass to release the essential oils (at The Brig they do this through a naked flame to caramelise the citrus oils and add a bit of theatre) and garnish with a twist of orange peel.
